Tunisian Prime Minister Hicham Mechichi, during his meeting with a delegation from the World Bank, led by the Vice President of the World Bank for the Middle East and North Africa, Farid Belhaj, affirmed the commitment of the Tunisian government to undertake the necessary reforms, especially in this difficult economic and health circumstance.
Mechichi emphasized - according to the Tunisian government's statement - that the relationship between Tunisia and the World Bank is a historical relationship, cooperation and partnership between the two parties.
Meshishi valued the World Bank's standing by Tunisia and its continuous confidence in its institutions, adding that coordination with the World Bank delegation in Tunisia has continued for months, resulting in the achievement of many achievements that concern vulnerable groups and people who have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the conclusion of the visit of the World Bank delegation to Tunisia - according to the statement - it was decided to agree to pump a loan of 300 million dollars into the Tunisian state budget, and this loan will be allocated to support about one million families from vulnerable groups that have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
It was also approved to grant Tunisia a loan of 100 million dollars to assist the government in the national vaccination campaign. This loan will be allocated for the acquisition of vaccinations, and to support the storage and cooling system.
After the meeting, Hajj noted that the World Bank saw a clear direction by the Tunisian government to institute the necessary economic and social reforms in this difficult circumstance.
El-Hajj considered that pumping 400 million dollars into the Tunisian state budget is a token of confidence from the World Bank for Tunisia, calling on the Tunisian state to clearly proceed with these reforms to give a positive signal to the financial institutions.
