New British research has confirmed that the Corona virus vaccine from the two companies, Pfizer-BioNTech, is able to neutralize a new type of corona that is rapidly spreading in Brazil, according to the British newspaper The Independent.
And the study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, found that the vaccine only mutated version of the virus, which contains the spike protein - the Brazilian P1 variant, effectively among people who received the vaccine, as it was observed that the new variables affect the extent of Transmission of the virus, and therefore it is the main target of Corona virus vaccines.
The study showed that the blood taken from the people who were given the vaccine neutralized the mutated version of the virus.
The scientists said that the neutralization ability is roughly equivalent to the effect of the vaccine on a previous, less infectious version of the virus from last year.
In previously published studies, Pfizer found that its vaccine neutralized the other, more infectious variants that were first identified in the UK and South Africa, although the South African variant may reduce the protective antibodies the vaccine produces.
Pfizer said it believes its current vaccine is likely to still protect against the South African type, however, the drug manufacturer plans to test a third booster dose of its vaccine as well as a specially equipped version to combat the variant in order to better understand the immune response.
